Seniors if you have been accepted to a university (or universities) we want to celebrate with you! Come and bring your acceptance letter to the guidance office so we can  make a copy of it! Ms. Springer will be using them for a project later on in the year!!

Schedule Changes

**Students the last day to get your schedule changed for the second nine weeks is Monday, October 20, 2014. Please note that after Monday you will no longer be able to change your schedule.


**For spring semester schedule changes, you may come to the counselor's office starting in December to discuss potential second semester changes.

We've Got Mail!

Students if you come into the counselor's office and we are unable to meet with you immediately, please leave us a note in our mailbox.  The mailbox is located right outside of our conference room. We check our mailbox frequently throughout the day. Once we get your note we will send you a slip to class that will allow you to come and see us!


**On the yellow notecards beside the mailbox be sure to leave your first and last name, date, and the reason you came in to see one of us!!

Horatio Alger Mississippi Scholarship Program

The Horatio Alger Mississippi Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the State of Mississippi who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education. The deadline is October 25, 2014.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Mississippi Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
•    Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in Mississippi; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2015 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
•    Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)

NCAA Eligibility Newsletter

REGISTRATION TIME   It is time for college-bound student-athletes to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Who Should Register?  Any current high school sophomore, junior or senior who wishes to participate in collegiate athletics at an NCAA Division I or II college or university should register.   How Does Registration Work?  Registrants may access the site at www.eligibilitycenter.org .  From the home page, click on “Enter Here” for NCAA college-bound student-athletes, then on the “New Account” link in the upper right corner.  From there, they simply follow the prompts.   What is the High School’s Role?  For your current seniors who have registered, you need to send transcripts to the NCAA Eligibility Center.  You can access your list of registrants on the NCAA Eligibility Center's High School Portal.  Go to  www.eligibilitycenter.org and click on the high school administrator link.  Log in, then click on “Student Reports ” to see what students from your school have registered.  You will want to send transcripts at the end of the year for both juniors and seniors.  Please consider sending an e-transcript rather than a paper transcript, as these are received and processed within 24-48 hours.  Directions and information on e-transcripts are on the Resources tab of the High School Portal.   TRANSCRIPT UPLOAD FEATURE   High schools now have the capability to upload transcripts directly to a student's account from the High School Portal. It's free and easy! As with other electronic transcript providers, this process is much quicker than using the U.S. Postal Service or any overnight delivery method. When transcripts are uploaded directly to a student's account, the NCAA Eligibility Center has near real time access to the transcript! For instructions on how to use this new process, follow the tutorial here.   PRELIMINARY TRANSCRIPT SUBMISSION   The NCAA Eligibility Center needs your help! Our staff is conducting preliminary academic evaluations on 2015 graduates much earlier than years past, but the NCAA Eligibility Center cannot complete evaluations without transcripts.    Why the change?  NCAA colleges and universities have asked for earlier academic evaluations of college-bound student-athletes whom they are actively recruiting.  These earlier evaluations will assist the NCAA Eligibility Center in identifying potential issues with individual cases, and drive outbound, proactive efforts to address concerns throughout the academic year, rather than last-minute emergencies during the summer months.   What do we need from you?  As you know, the NCAA Eligibility Center cannot do the preliminary evaluations without the required transcripts and test scores.  We need your assistance in submitting information for your college-bound student-athletes.    Please submit official six-semester transcripts to the NCAA Eligibility Center.These transcripts can be sent via U.S. mail, or the preferred method is through one of the approved e-transcript providers. The U.S. mail and overnight delivery addresses are below.  Sending transcripts through the mail may take additional processing time. However, e-transcripts are processed within 24-48 hours of receipt.Those providers include: ConnectEDU; National Transcript Center/Pearson Edustructure; NCAA Eligibility Center direct upload; Parchment; Scrip Safe; USMO ET; and XAP.   The NCAA Eligibility Center also asks that you remind your student-athletes to have their SAT and/or ACT scores sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center by entering the code ‘9999’ on the test registration form.  All test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency, as test scores reported on the high school transcript will not be accepted.   Assisting the NCAA Eligibility Center in these efforts will aid in providing a clearer snapshot of where your student-athletes stand after six academic semesters.  Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping the NCAA Eligibility Center implement this new service model!   Mailing Address: NCAA Eligibility Center Certification Processing P.O. Students may take the ACT or the SAT an unlimited number of times prior to full-time collegiate enrollment, and the best score will be used in the final academic certification.  Test scores are matched to the student's NCAA Eligibility Center account by name, date of birth and address.   It is important to note that if the NCAA Eligibility Center does not receive a student's test scores, the student's account will not be evaluated, which means that the student may not be able to receive athletics scholarships.   UNDERSTANDING THE NCAA PROCESS WEBINAR (ON-DEMAND)   Did you miss our school counseling training webinar?
